Recently, information has emerged that two men’s volleyball Champions League tournaments will be held in Poland.
It’s good news. The bad news is that they are scheduled soon.
Will it be possible to reduce the number of coronavirus cases by then so that we are at least a ‘yellow or green zone’? It would be a pity to play such an event with completely empty stands.
What about these tournaments?
By default, the Champions League in the group stage is a weekly match and rematch. Due to the situation this year, the formula was changed. There will be tournaments in which all the teams in the group will participate at once.
A few days ago, the hosts of these tournaments were selected, including Skra and Zaksa.
When and where?
The host of the first tournament is Zaksa, so it will be held in Kędzierzyn-Koźle: December 8-10.
The second will be played in Bełchatów, January 26-28.
Or somewhere nearby, because it has happened before that the competition was moved to larger halls, e.g. in Łódź.
Who with who?
Both Polish teams play in the same group (A), so they will participate in both competitions. The other two teams are Fenerbahce Istanbul and Lindemans Aalst.
Jastrzębski Węgiel and Verva Warszawa also play in the Champions League. Jastrzębski plays in group C with well-known teams. These are: ACH Volley Ljubljana, Berlin Recycling Volleys and Zenit Kazan.
Tournaments of this group will be played in Berlin (8-10.12) and Kazan (9-11.02).
Verva Warszawa is in Group D along with the Knack Roselare, Kuzbass Kemerovo and Leo Shoes Modena teams. The group will play their tournaments in the Belgian Roselare (15-17.12) and the Italian Modena (9-11.02).
The one in Modena and Perugia (in February, group B) caught my attention being such interesting tournaments in beautiful places.
Maybe by this time trips to Italy will be possible? 😉
A detailed game plan is available at this link.
What after the group stage?
The quarter-finals (2/23-04/03) and the semi-finals (2/16-25/03) are planned as a match and rematch.
The final is a single match scheduled for May 1, 2021.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed for everything to succeed😊.
